OFFICIAL COUNSELLING UPDATE

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has published an official notice explaining the eligibility framework for candidates who claim NRI/OCI status or seek conversion from Indian to NRI nationality for UG/PG counselling in academic year 2026–27. The notice itself is dated 27 May 2026; this article explains that document and does not announce a new counselling schedule.
What the MCC notice covers
MCC states that candidates applying for NRI quota seats must meet the eligibility criteria described in the cited Supreme Court order. The notice recognises situations involving an NRI parent ordinarily residing abroad, certain first-degree relations, and—subject to listed conditions—a nearest blood relative acting as a sponsor or guardian.
Conditions for a relative sponsor
- The relationship must fall within the categories listed by MCC, such as specified paternal or maternal uncles/aunts, grandparents or first-degree cousins.
- The sponsor must be an NRI who ordinarily resides abroad.
- The candidate must be able to produce evidence supporting the claimed guardian relationship.
- An affidavit and the legal documents requested by MCC/competent authority may be required during counselling.

What candidates should do now
- Read the official notice before selecting or claiming an NRI category.
- Keep relationship, NRI residence, sponsorship/guardianship and affidavit documents ready in the form MCC ultimately specifies.
- Use only the MCC website and counselling portal for deadlines, registration, conversion windows and document-upload instructions.
- Do not rely on social-media screenshots or previous-year schedules.
What is not confirmed by this notice
The notice does not by itself provide the NEET PG 2026 counselling calendar, registration dates, round-wise seat matrix or final document-upload window. Those details must come from a separate current MCC schedule or notice.
