At a Glance
The FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health listed four regulatory updates dated 5 October 2026:
- Classification of a hyperoxia monitoring device adjunct to pulse oximetry.
- Classification of a focused ultrasound system for non-thermal, mechanical tissue ablation.
- Classification of a high-throughput DNA sequencing test system for hereditary cancer predisposition assessment.
- Premarket-notification exemptions affecting certain Class II clinical toxicology test systems.
Why this matters
Classification decisions determine the regulatory pathway, controls and premarket requirements applicable to device categories in the United States. They can also signal how emerging technologies are being formally defined by regulators.
India relevance
FDA classification does not automatically determine CDSCO classification, approval or availability in India. Indian hospitals, laboratories and manufacturers should follow CDSCO and Medical Devices Rules requirements for domestic regulatory decisions.
